50th Anniversary
Maine to Quebec Winter Carnival Caravan
February 9-11, 2007

In February of 1957 a group of 23 Aroostook County residents departed Ashland in cars and Jeeps for a 200-mile trek through the Maine wilderness to Quebec City.  Encouraging economic and cultural development between Maine and Quebec, this caravan became an annual event for over a decade.  2007 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Caravan to Carnival trip.

Once again, we will re-enact this trek to Quebec City which will take place in February.  The weekend coincides with Quebec City's Winter Carnival festivities.

The caravan will leave Ashland/Portage on Friday morning February 9, 2007 at 7:15 A.M. We will travel as a group west through the woods to Clayton Lake, then onward to the crossing point at St. Pamphile where we will then move on to Quebec City.  Once in Quebec City, caravan members will be on their own to explore the city and to enjoy the Winter Carnival festivities.  The return trip home will be at your own discression (not organized as a group return).   A complete itinerary will be given to you upon receipt of registration.
All personal expenses, including cost of hotel and meals will be the responsibility of the individual caravan member.

A non-refundable $25.00 registration fee per caravan member will provide the following:
  • Hotel reservations at a reduced rate
  • Itinerary of Quebec City Carnival events
  • Quebec City and Area Official Tourist Guide
  • Tour of Maine's North Woods
  • Button pin to identify group member(s)
  • Program detailing history of caravan.
  • Map of our route.
  • Tax Refund for Visitors to Canada forms
  • Guidelines for Border Crossing Customer(s)
    • Photo ID
    • Passport or Birth Certificate
    • Date of birth for all caravan members
    • NO OUI's or SPEEDING CONVICTIONS OVER 30 MPH
Join us and enjoy re-enacting the caravan through the woods, a fun filled weekend at Quebec City's Winter Carnival and a chance for an international cultural exchange!
Registration deadline for the caravan is February 5, 2007
Hotel reservations should be made ASAP

All proceeds from this trip will be going to the Ashland Rotary Club and put towards the Maine Veterans Cemetery Fund.
