Old Business – Minutes from April 20, 2007
Minutes from the April 20, 2007 meeting were moved, seconded and approved as modified. The meeting scheduled for April 27, 2007 was canceled.
2. Election of a Chairperson
It was moved, seconded and approved for Bob White to continue as chair of the committee.
Nursing and Allied Health – Modification of prerequisites
It was moved, seconded and approved to remove MAT125-College Algebra as a pre-requisite for NUR195-Clinical Externship but it will be a pre-co-requisite for NUR226-Nursing Across the Life Span II and a pre-requisite for NUR229-Nursing Across the Life Span III.
4. New Certificate Programs – Industrial Electrical Maintenance Certificate & Industrial Mechanical Maintenance Certificate
Brian McDougal presented two new Certificate Program Proposals: 1) Industrial Electrical Maintenance Certificate 2) Industrial Mechanical Maintenance Certificate. The committee had concerns regarding the lack of requirement for PHE124-Ergonomics & Occupational Wellness Conditioning. It was requested that Brian submit course syllabi electronically of all the new courses.
5. Other New Business
As an informational item, Dr. Punches shared tables which outlined the increasing average credit requirements over the past several years (i.e., an increase in credit requirements from 64.74 in 1994 to 67.67 in 2006), as well as a breakdown of how it took students to complete their associates degrees (i.e., only 24% of students during 2003-2007 completed their AA in two years; only 36.08% completed their AS in two years; and only 43.81% completed their AAS in two years) and certificates (i.e., only 35.71% of students during 2003-2007 completed these one-year certificates in one year). The average credit load carried by students in Fall, 2006 was 14.55.
