Charge:  Composed of representatives from each department/area of the college, this committee conducts safety audits as needed of all areas of the college and reports findings to area managers with a copy to the president and vice president.  Recommends to the vice president health and safety training and/or professional development activities, and engages in other action as appropriate to recommend actions to assure a healthy and safe environment for out students and employees

The committee moved to accept the May minutes.  In regards to the minutes the committee should follow up on the items that were discussed at the previous meeting.

 

1)      Old Business

 

A)    Safety Training

     i)    Bureau of Labor Standards

·         SHAPE Program – Re-inspection on November 24th @ 1:00 p.m.

·         Bring those items that need to be checked to the next meeting to go over

     ii)  Policy Review

·         Develop a schedule on annual policies to be reviewed.  On next month’s agenda, review a couple of policies

iii) Safety Training Records

·         Data entry needed 

·         Did special class for work study and lab assistants online.  Give workstudy a time frame to complete training

·         Monthly training with custodial and maintenance                

B)    Incidents

i)        Bomb threat on September 16th in Christie building men’s bathroom, wrote on stall wall.  Security checked out the surveillance.

ii)      Bomb threat procedure – Should not pull fire alarm, verbally evacuate building, if appropriate use rave instant alert

C)    Smoking Policy Update

i)        Policy is in effect and working well

ii)      Discipline – gets warning and if it comes to be an issue it will be directed to the Dean of Students

iii)    Send an email to all employees to remind students of our policy

iv)    Smoking cessation counselors are available in the counseling office and health center

2)      New Business

A)    MMA Grants are completed. 

i)        The grants are for ergonomics and safety equipment (pallet jack in Todd’s shop and rescue device in Wayne’s class). 

ii)      AED for the Wellness Center and security office will be through a state grant.

B)    LOTO Authorized Personnel inspections – Make list of people authorized

C)    MMA Leader Inspection

i)        Place the safety minutes on the bulletin board in the Christie lobby

ii)      Moving safety committee minutes – new link so employees have better access

D)    Test rave alert periodically (once a semester).  Send an email to notify when testing will be done

E)     Tom – Fire extinguisher, CPR and first aid training in Res Life completed

F)     Barry – The E Stops are out to bid and should be completed the end of October.  Waiting on the mechanical part of the paint mixing project.

G)    Bob Rice has a key to the electrical panel and needs to complete electrical training.
