Campus Communications Chair: Shawn Lahey
Minutes
October 9, 2008 9:00am CED Conference Room We welcomed new members Aimee Wilkins, Heather Libby, Galen Case, Jessica Miller and a returning member Kim Ferguson who was not on the committee last year. We will meet the 1st Thursday every month @ 9:00 a.m. Cindy has agreed to be this year’s recorder for this committee. Shawn will meet with Alan Punches to discuss the charge of the communications committee. We should be aware of our responsibilities and the purpose of this committee. A “plan English” definition will be requested along with the location of any supporting material – i.e.: policies, procedures, etc. We discussed last year’s efforts of the committee and what the goals were, what was accomplished and what was outstanding or passed to another committee. Over the summer we have displayed some of the currently available discounts to employees and students via the information displays. This committee will help the development office implement a campus wide discount program, or enhance a program if already developed. Shawn will discuss with Jason on the committee’s responsibly for this program and how either a sub-committee or the communications committee as a whole can help in the process. Chuck mentioned the notifications of school closing. The notifications of school closing aren’t available through instant alert at this time but it was discussed. Barry will follow up on the instant alert system with Jason and Tim. There will be a vendor demonstration on the 23rd & 30th of October at KVCC that staff members will be attending in order to evaluate products for a new student information system from both Jenzabar and Datatel. This system change over will not be immediate but will have a significant impact on the faculty, staff and students once implemented. Dave Wyman will be the contact person/main representative for NMCC. We discussed multiple campus parking issues. A plan to designate more parking for employees, parking ticket enforcement and yearly student vehicle registration were all items mentioned. Also, it is a safety issue to park in front of the fuel tanks next to the Mailman Trades building. The College is looking into making the Edmunds entrance all handicap. Barry contacted the fire marshal and he sees no problem. The visitors in the residential area are getting tickets because there aren’t many visitor parking spaces available. We will follow up with Bill Egeler on this matter. More employee parking should be available in the Andrews parking lot soon to accommodate the recent office moves. The new health center location has been marked with new signage and is clearly identified. The next meeting is scheduled for November 13 @ 9:00 a.m. in the Continuing Education Department.
