Charge:

The campus retention committee reviews data from across the campus including external indicators such as the Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) and Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) and from other sources with a focus on increasing student persistence and graduation. Recommendations for policy and other changes are made to the appropriate department, division and/or campus senior management as appropriate.

Opening of meeting.

 

Request for nominations and voting to select committee chair.  Gail Roy selected to continue as chair of this committee.  Members agreed to rotate assignment of recording minutes at each meeting.

Dennis Albert has invited NMCC student Roxanne Allen to serve as a student representative for this committee.  Roxanne will attend our next meeting.  Roxanne currently serves on the Student Senate.

Trio paired classes initiative update will be placed on the next meeting agenda.

 SSI Update – The Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) will be administered this fall after student registration.  The survey will be given in all English courses.  Cindy Albert will distribute surveys to faculty and they will return them to Cindy.   Retention committee members will assist if Cindy needs help with the process.

 

CCSSE workshop at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor on November 2, 2011.  All committee members are invited to attend.  Bill, Johna, Gail, and Dottie Martin are scheduled to attend.  Information from this workshop will be shared with committee at next meeting.

 The Phi Theta Kappa Commit to Complete initiative has been launched on NMCC campus.  To learn more, visit the PTK website (http://www.cccompletioncorps.org/ptk) and see the links for the C4 project (Community College Completion Corps).  To date, PTK has created a video for distribution to students.  Other events are planned on campus throughout the semester to promote college completion.

The 2011 key findings report from the CCSSE survey administered in spring 2011 was distributed to the committee.  Members reviewed and discussed the following items:

 Benchmark overviews:  Active/Collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student-faculty interaction, and support for learners.  These benchmarks were rated based on full-time and part-time student responses.

 

 

 

 

 

The school’s benchmark scores when compared to CCSSE cohorts were favorable in the following areas:

NMCC academic challenge 50.5

CCSSE cohort academic challenge 50.0

NMCC student-faculty interaction  53.5

Members also discussed the differing data between full and part-time students. 

This data will be shared with campus community via newsletter and flyers on campus.

Next meeting is scheduled for 3 pm on December 7th in the library conference room B.

Shelli made a motion to adjourn.  Dick seconded the motion.  Meeting adjourned at 3:45 pm.
