Fire drills were completed on September 26th for the Christie, Mailman, Autobody and Commons buildings and went well.  The issues were that the hood in the kitchen was still on and people need to stay out of the roadways.  The fire drills for Residential Life were scheduled on September 15th.  The Res Life staff had training on fire extinguishers, 1st Aid, CPR and AED on August 24th.

Tim mentioned we should gather evaluation data from employees on the training they attend to assess effectiveness.

We have hired Carl Allen as the Safety and Security Manager.  He will start on November 1st.

Dave Cote is working on locking electrical panels that do not have a locking system.  Auto body is done and he is currently working in carpentry.

New student interns need to be certified for the fork lift.  Bob Rice will be doing a new training soon.

Some minor changes were made to the charge for the safety committee.  A motion to move forward to the president’s cabinet was seconded and all in favor.

A set date and time for the safety committee was set for the 1st Wednesday of every month from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Cole  mentioned the student senate discussed the issue of limited parking spaces.  To avoid this issue vehicles stored in autobody/automotive area that do not belong on campus will be removed.  Relocating college vehicles to maintenance area will make several parking spaces available.

Rob mentioned a safety hazard around the dumpster area by the commons is a concern.  Water collects around the dumpster which makes it slippery especially during the winter months when ice starts to form. Barry will have maintenance look into it more.

Speeding has become an issue on campus.  Driving/parking privileges will be revoked for speeding violations.

A task force was created to work on the health & wellness for students/staff on campus.  The task force will meet this afternoon, October 19th @ 3:00 p.m.

Rick mentioned the lack of exterior lighting by his and Bob Collins shop.  This is a concern when they have night classes. Barry plans to reevaluate this area with Dave.

Aroostook County Safety Delegation will be doing a symposium on campus during April vacation.  Also, state & federal OSHA will be doing training as well.

Shawn has resigned his position as committee chair and removed himself from the committee.  A new committee chair will be appointed to anyone interested in occupying this role.

The next meeting is scheduled for November 2nd @ 9:00 a.m. in the 3rd floor conference room.
