It was decided and agreed upon in the committee meeting that Dottie Martin will be the Chairperson and Dave Raymond will be Co-Chair for the Academic Year 2012-2013.
The Curriculum Committee of Northern Maine Community College met on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 to review the submission of new courses for the Health Information Technology Associate in Applied Science Degree Program. The following courses were approved:
· Medical Law and Ethics HIT 1XX 3 credits o Prerequisite: § HIT 101- Introduction to Health Information Technology
· Clinical Classification Systems I - HIT 1XX 3 credits o Prerequisites: § HIT 101 and § SES 220 – Medical Terminology o Co-Requisites: § BIO 130 Anatomy & Physiology II; § CIS 118 Office Computer Applications; and § HIT 1XX Clinical Applications of Pathophysiology & Pharmacology
· Clinical Applications of Pathophysiology and Pharmacology HIT 1XX 3 credits o Prerequisites: § BIO 120 Anatomy & Physiology I; SES 220 o Co-Requisites: § BIO 130
· Clinical Classification Systems II HIT 2XX 3 credits o Prerequisites: § HIT 1XX Clinical Classifications Systems I o Co-Requisites: § HIT 2XX Reimbursement & Revenue Cycle Management; and § HIT 2XX Healthcare Statistics *The lab hours for this class have been adjusted to 3. That change does not have any effect on the total credits for the class.
After all courses were reviewed, it was noted that the proposed curriculum totaled 73 credits. Program Coordinator Rhonda Harvey and Nursing Allied Health Department Chair Kim Esquibel agreed to review the requirements for the Internship class and the Seminar class to see if any adjustments might be made to the credit hour requirements. Such adjustment should place the curriculum credit hours at no more than 72 credit hours.
Following this discussion and agreement the Health Information Technology Program Curriculum was approved.
