Charge:  Composed of representatives from each department/area of the college, this committee conducts safety audits as needed of all areas of the college and reports findings to area managers with a copy to the president and vice president.  Recommends to the vice president health and safety training and/or professional development activities, and engages in other action as appropriate to recommend actions to assure a healthy and safe environment for out students and employees

SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING

October 15, 2014

3rd Floor Conference Room

 

Attendance:  Tim Crowley, Dottie Martin, Bill Egeler, Tom Richard, Mike Williams, Peter Goheen, Pam Buck, Kurt Soucy, Rob Ottaviano Nikki McNally – recorder

 

Absent:  Barry Ingraham, Shawn Lahey, Carl Allen, Stephen Caron, Jr., Rick Taggett, Bob Collins, Bob Rice, JP Levasseur, Dennis Albert, Greg Thompson, Fred Doody, Kim Ferguson, George Gartley

 

The committee moved to accept the September minutes as corrected.  The committee discussed the bomb threat incident that took place on September 16th and the bomb threat procedures.  In regards to the minutes the committee should follow up on the items that were discussed at the previous meeting.

 

1)      Old Business

 

A)    Safety Training

     i)    Bureau of Labor Standards

·         SHAPE Program – Re-inspection on November 24th @ 1:00 p.m.

·         Mary Matthew will be doing the inspection

·         Provide list of what needs to be re-inspected and review at next meeting

     ii)  Policy Review

·         Schedule which policies to review

·         Put LOTO on the top of the list to review

iii) Safety Training Records

·         Data entry still needed 

·         Yearly auditory and respiratory tests

·         Carl will perform monthly training for maintenance and custodial staff      

B)    Incidents

i)        Bomb threats that took place on September 16th and 18th are still under investigation

C)    Smoking Policy Update

i)        Students smoking in the north entrance on the grass

2)      New Business

A)    LOTO Authorized Personnel inspections – Schedule on inspections 

B)    Review LOTO procedures in labs

C)    MMA Leader Inspection

i)        Moving safety committee minutes – new link so employees have better access

D)    Dottie – Need trainer to perform forklift training

E)     Pam wanted an update on the E stops and the paint mixing booth project.  Touch base with Barry on these.

F)     Bob Rice has completed the electrical training on the electrical panels

G)    Barry – The E Stops are out to bid and should be completed the end of October.  Waiting on the mechanical part of the paint mixing project.

H)    Peter from security mentioned putting more information about the flu season and Ebola in the student center or on the monitors around campus

I)       Today the health center is celebrating healthy Aroostook

J)       Blood drive will be held on October 21st in the gymnasium

K)    Kurt mentioned training is needed for evacutrac

L)     Winter wear should be placed in the locker room when using the fitness center

M)   Placement of a runner will be placed in the fitness center during the winter season to prevent slips, trips and falls

N)    Tom completed campus crime security report, Cleary Act annual federal report

O)    Fire drills conducted in res life (Andrews and Snow) were held on September 22nd

P)     Tested the rave instant alert system
