Shawn mentioned that 15 people completed their audiograms and there were no shifts in anyone tested.  Linda has all the records in the health center.

At the last meeting Dean noted issues with the self contained eye wash station.  Shawn checked on it and the eye wash station should have a tag within the week.  The water should be changed out within the next month.  The eye wash station has been moved to another wall to accommodate the MSDS mini notebook.

Karl is in the process of setting up a schedule for a monthly walk through for Lockout/Tagout audits.

Karl mentioned the hearing conservation monitoring.  Barry is in the process of working on it with Dave.

Tim mentioned during the evening there was a fuel oil odor in the diesel lab.  There could be an issue with the drainage and should be checked out.

Tim also mentioned some common issues pertaining to instant alert.  The media should be notified of instant alert.  It should be clear if the instant alert notification includes the off campus center such as Madawaska and Houlton.  The off campus centers should be set up for the instant alert system.  The adult ed directors should get together to discuss it.  Also, adjunct faculty may need training/retraining on how to update their contact information on the portal.

Barry informed the committee that the safety/security issue, mentioned last meeting, of shrubbery around campus went to bid. Someone should be hired to do the job in the next couple weeks.

The tiles in the gym area containing no asbestos have been replaced.  Tiles containing asbestos are covered by runner rugs for the time being. The replacement will be listed as a summer project. Barry spoke with Larry and Judy about the DEP guidelines on cleaning tiles with asbestos.

Tom mentioned the recent issues with vandalism in the residential life parking area and suggested that increasing the lights would help with this issue.  Barry noted they plan on increasing the exterior lighting near residential life by spring time.

We have an update on Snow hall, Room 104 that needed to be emptied due to a strong odor.  We are scheduled to have Allen’s Drain Cleaning come in and drain the main drain.  We are checking on the apartment across the hall with mold under the sink.  We will monitor the flow from the new line.

It was recommended that while in class faculty and students put their cell phones on vibrate in case of emergency and can receive instant alert messages.  A common statement should be placed on the course syllabi.  President Crowley and Shawn will present the recommendation will to the faculty this afternoon at the faculty meeting.

Peter Noddin from MMA visited the campus and it was a positive visit.  He gave tips on how to go above & beyond, which would help us score higher on the MMA scoring system.

Barry noted that the next System Environmental Health & Safety Committee meeting will be held on November 18th. NMCC has been asked to present the MSDS system to the committee at that meeting.

The next meeting is scheduled for December 2nd @ 9:00 a.m. in the 3rd floor conference room.
