There was a minor change to October minutes.

Safety training update – 80-85% of employees completed the safety training.  Authorized lockout/tagout training was changed to November 17th.  On October 20th advanced bloodborne pathogen training was completed.  Also, on October 25th employees completed the AED/first aid/CPR training.  Training for slips, trips and falls prevention, back injury prevention and VDT with Peter Noddin from MMA was complete on October 27th.

An assessment needs to be done on our safety program.  We need to create a subcommittee of 5 or 6 people to evaluate where we are in safety.  Karl mentioned the programs/policies should be reviewed, created and put to work.  Rob mentioned that he uses a computer program called the Dashboard to monitor safety evaluations within their company.  The program is web based and everyone has access to it.  It shows a percentage score, if you don’t meet numbers a ‘safety champion’ will contact you. Rob Ottaviano, Tom Richard, Jen Graham, Dave Guerrette, Karl Jackson, Shawn Lahey, Greg Thompson have volunteered to be on the subcommittee.

We checked the first aid kits around campus and most of them were not stocked properly.   We need to go by the ANSI standards, some areas need other tools depending on work being done in their shop or lab.  In the past a company came in to inspect the first aid kids but then it began to be too costly.  Need to designate 1 person to inspect all first aid kits on campus.  It was suggested the person inspecting the fire extinguishers also be responsible for inspecting the first aid kits.   There should be a checklist for the items in the kit and check off items that are removed.  Tom mentioned having the AED included in the policy.  A draft of a new First Aid policy was submitted to the committee and should be refined for the next meeting, looking for approval and recommendation to move it forward to the Management Team.

Dave Guerrette visited several trades areas and two things students brought to his attention were ear plugs and PPE.  Ear plugs should be available in all trade areas and particle masks need to be in place and used in certain shops.

Electrical concerns, mentioned in a previous meeting, in the gym area and the computer electronics lab have been addressed and fixed.

Judy mentioned a smell near Greg’s classroom.  Greg said the smell is due to microbiology lab work and the exhaust automatically starts when you enter the room. There’s nothing more that can be done in the area. Judy also mentioned a cracked tile in the Edmunds building and it was a trip hazard.

The next meeting is scheduled for December 1st @ 9:00 a.m. in the 3rd floor conference room.
