Retention Committee
Review of minutes from previous meeting: Lynne made a motion to approve the minutes and Jen seconded the approval of the minutes.
Vote for Committee Chair and Secretary: Gail Roy and Laura McPherson are co-chairs this year. Jennifer Graham volunteered as recording secretary for this year.
Gail Roy passed out the Community College Survey of Student Engagement 2013 key findings. She asked each of us to look for 3 focus items in the survey to be addressed as a committee for improvement on student engagement and retention. We are to send those recommendations to her in an email by December 6th.
Gail also distributed Mount Wachusett Community College Student Retention Plan and asked the group to review it. Members were asked to consider creating a retention plan for NMCC. Members agreed to review and discuss at our next meeting.
A discussion followed about the surveys given to students and how we share information with the campus community. It was decided that we would share this data with faculty and staff at the January 2014 Professional Development Day.
Members were asked to review an article in their packet entitled, “Increasing Faculty-Student Engagement” and offer suggestions on best practices for our campus.
An update on the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) for fall 2013: Cindy Albert has begun to distribute surveys to English instructors. All English classes will be reviewed. Cindy will provide an update report for our next meeting.
Jen Graham and Lynn Nelson Manion reported to the group about the First Year College experience class and survey. They are currently collecting survey data and will report on their findings to the committee and to campus once the survey is complete.
Our next meeting is December 16th at noon in the Edmunds Library Conference room B.
