Environmental Health & Safety Minutes:
Revised minutes November 2, 2011 We are still looking for one of the safety members to chair the meetings. In the meantime Tim will chair the meetings. Dave has agreed to co-chair the meetings. Karl Jackson has resigned from the safety committee at this time due to conflict of schedule. It is important to have the knowledge and resources for our committee. Having some members that have safety background is beneficial. Barry - Trombley Industries will pave a pad around the dumpsters near the Reed Dining Commons to avoid water and ice buildup. Dave Cote continues to work on locking electrical panels. Room 214 is complete. All surveying equipment needs to be moved out of Greg’s lab before they start dissecting. Barry talked about the Biomass project. Industrial Heating & Piping start the earthwork week of November 14th. They will dig pits between the carpentry shop and mailman boiler room. Parking & roadway will be dug up and should only lose about 6 parking spaces. We have moved the college vehicles to the maintenance area to make more parking spaces available for employees. We will be doing some interior piping which may cause some heat issues. We may have to shut of the heat at times but a notice will go out ahead of time. Asbestos abatement will take place in January. We will need to work around these renovations. On November 9th we will have an employee meeting to discuss the biomass project further. Larry — Incident where an employee slipped on hydraulic fluid in one of the shops. An incident form was filled out. Appropriate footwear should be worn to prevent slips, trips and falls. It was suggested to have Karen announce it in the newsletter. Dave - Safety issue regarding the MSDS computers. There is limited access to print MSDS sheets. Refresher training needs to be held for employees and students, esp. for the trade students. Welding flood lights need to be replaced. Judy -The height is too high for the toilet paper and paper towel dispenser for handicap. This is an ADA issue that needs to be looked at. Tim will have someone look into it. Some of the unmarked bottles are not identified properly and needs a standardized label. Teachers bringing in products from home need to have MSDS sheet. We are in need of blood borne hazard kits that can be ordered through Northern Safety. The MSDS computer isn’t working in the energy lab and needs to be looked at. All custodians should attend Dave’s OSHA class. The 10-hour OSHA class would be beneficial. The dumpster at the end of energy lab building has a 4” drop off. It should have gravel put in to level it off. Brian — Suggested that part of the safety training should include safety equipment such as hard hats and safety glasses. Also, there should be a centralized location to keep the safety equipment for everyone’s use esp. for visitors on campus. Qualified electrical employees should get copies of keys for the panels. Need to go over safety plan for solvents with Carl. Clean Harbor is the company to pick up the waste. The hoist needs an annual inspection. Instructors need to have safety training with their trade students and document the training when completed. Tim — Suggested Safety Works should come on campus for safety audit. Get educational backgrounds on auditors for the audit. A group audit would be helpful. Containers should be looked at and dispose of any old containers. Containers should be stored in proper places. Carl — All employees should take 30 hour OSHA class. The next meeting is scheduled for December 7th 9:00 am. in the 3rd floor conference room. Last changed: Oct 15 2013 at 8:36 AM Back |
