Review of minutes from April 19, 2012 meeting.   Shelli made a motion to approve the minutes and Bill seconded the approval of minutes.

Vote for Committee Chair.  Gail Roy voted as Committee Chair.

Recording Secretary will rotate during meetings.

Asked for suggestions for student representative for this committee. Members will forward any suggestions to Gail and we will invite a student to participate on this committee.

Shellie asked if there were data about persistence of online students versus on ground students.  Committee to discuss further and search for studies/data.

Dick presented information from an article he read in the Chronicle about engaging high school students in dual credit.  Discussion surrounding the benefits—forming relationships with faculty at NMCC.    Also issue of credentialing of high school instructors.

Members noted that we still have a gap in faculty interaction with students outside of the classroom and committee should meet with faculty to discuss and look for additional ways to connect with students.  Attempts have been made for greater interaction between faculty/students outside of the classroom.

Gail presented information on a Noel-Levitz webinar given by Julie Bryant on October 30, 2012:  Three Things You Must Do With Your Satisfaction Assessment Data.  1) Understand data and view in 3 different directions (target groups, year to year reports, and external comparisons), 2) Change something (a policy or procedure, the way you communicate about a situation, show the actions and tell the action), and 3) Share the data (share what you learned from the data, what you changed, what you plan to do in the future, show how you compare over time and externally).  Handouts from the webinar were distributed to members.

Members agreed that there is a need to do a better job of disseminating our survey data and interpreting the data for faculty and staff. Committee will be more proactive in sharing data from CCSSE and SSI surveys.  Also noted that closer collaboration with campus assessment committee is important and retention committee should share this data with campus, faculty, and committees.  Bill will share retention numbers and persistence with members.  Discussion about completion rates.

Committee members once again thanked Cindy Albert for all of her work on coordinating the SSI for our campus.  Cindy requests the surveys, receives the materials, distributes them to all English Comp faculty, and collects the surveys.  The committee will send a thank you note and a gift to Cindy for all of her efforts over the years with the Student Satisfaction Inventory.

Committee members will meet again in spring semester to discuss administering the CCSSE survey for spring 2013.  The survey is usually given in March and April in pre-selected courses.  New members of the committee will need to review the protocols.  Surveys are evenly split between members.  Usually each member takes approximately 10 class surveys.

Meeting adjourned at 3:00 pm.
