Charge:  Composed of representatives from each department/area of the college, this committee conducts safety audits as needed of all areas of the college and reports findings to area managers with a copy to the president and vice president.  Recommends to the vice president health and safety training and/or professional development activities, and engages in other action as appropriate to recommend actions to assure a healthy and safe environment for out students and employees

The committee moved to accept the October minutes.  In regards to the minutes the committee should follow up on the items that were discussed at the previous meeting. 1)      Old Business

A)    E-stop in Diesel and Carpentry is work in progress

i)        The Diesel program got notification that they are at master level, which made them unable to move forward until Bob was trained.

B)    Safety Training

     i)    Bureau of Labor Standards

·         SHAPE Program – Re-inspection on November 24th @ 1:00 p.m.

·         Areas to be re-inspected are:

-          Boiler room

-          Diesel Shop

-          Kitchen (Reed Commons)

-          Maintenance

-          NMCC training

-          Welding Shop

-          Check grinders

·         MMA Grants – Received MMA Grant letter and got approved for $2,000 for ergonomics and approved for $139.33 for jack pallet

·         Fit testing for maintenance needs to be done

ii)   Safety Training Records

·         Entry nearly completed

·         Tammy has printed copy of paid employees to cross reference safety training

·         Carl will perform monthly training for maintenance and custodial staff

-          Carl performed ladder safety, respirator, bloodborne pathogens, respirators (not required to wear respirators just voluntary)

iii) LOTO Authorized Personnel inspections

iv)  Rick Tagget has agreed to do training for forklifts

C)    Incidents

i)    Carbon monoxide detectors in Alternative Energy Building has been resolved

ii)   Area for slip, trips and falls are in front of the Wellness Center, water is leaking off the roof causing ice to form and slippery conditions

D)    Policy Review

i)        Required Yearly Review

·         Bloodborne

·         Electrical – Carl will review and bring back to committee

·         Emergency Action Plan

·         Fire Prevention

·         Hazard Communication

·         Hearing Conservation

·         Lockout Tagout

·         Respirator Policy – Bob Collins will review and bring back to committee

·         Safety and Health Policy

·         VDT Policy

ii)            Periodic Review

·         Confined Spaces

·         First Aid Policy

·         Forklift Policy

·         Hot Work Policy

iii)          Approve LOTO policy with reviews

iv)          Bloodborne pathogens policy has been reviewed

 

2)      New Business

A)    Bob Thomas will be on campus for training on slips, trips and falls in December

B)    MSDS computers need to be inspected periodically by IT staff quarterly

C)    Fire blankets needed for Automotive and Auto Collision shops 

D)    Kurt mentioned hand sanitizer stations need to be refilled around campus
