Student Satisfaction Committee:  Composed of members from all departments/areas of the college and a minimum of two students, this committee focuses on students’ satisfaction with their total college experience.  An annual satisfaction assessment utilizing the Student Satisfactory Inventory™ is conducted and analyzed by the committee with the follow-up data collection and assessment completed as necessary.  The committee is responsible for receiving and sharing input from and with all campus sectors and for making recommendations for improvement to the college president.  The committee will work closely with campus MIS staff to monitor campus retention efforts as outlined in the MCCS retention benchmarking report and to coordinate campus-based retention activities.  Committee assignments shall be for a period of no shorter than 2 years (students excepted) due to the volume and complexity of data to be acted upon.  This committee will utilize a discrepancy-based decision making model as its action philosophy and, due to the process nature of the committee’s focus, will seek consensus versus majority rule.  The dean of students will act a the committee liaison to the management team.

Meeting Minutes

November 10, 2008

Academic Success Center

3:00-4:30

Present:

Laura McPherson, Bill Egeler, Paula Flora, Dick Duplessis, Norma Smith and Gail Roy

Absent:

Shelli Cronkhite, Dennis Albert, Alan Punches, Alan St. Peter, Dan Hotham, Johna Lovely, and Nancy Cowett

  1. Laura opened the meeting and the minutes from the September 23rd meeting were read and approved by committee members.

  1. Members reviewed data from both the Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) and the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE).

While both sets of data will be reviewed and reported back to the NMCC community, members decided to focus on the SSI and review strengths and weaknesses.  Bill confirmed that the CCSSE will be administered in the Spring of 2009 and the SSI in the Fall of 2009.  By focusing on the SSI, the committee may have time to implement changes in areas where weaknesses were noted.

III.        For the new members of this committee, Bill provided an overview on how best to review this data (e.g., examine specific cohorts—full-time versus part-time, male versus female students—identify system wide areas where improvements can be made).  He also provided examples of past work by this committee.  Once the data is reviewed and committee recommendations are formed, a report will be presented to faculty to highlight issues and areas for improvement.

  1. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2009, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. in the classroom adjacent to the Academic Success Center.  The committee will review the areas of challenges in the SSI data.

Respectfully submitted,

Gail Roy
