The NMCC President’s Cabinet met at 4:00 pm on November 1, 2010, in the president’s conference room.  Present – Tim Crowley, Bill Egeler, Ron Fitzgerald, Barry Ingraham, Larry LaPlante, and Diane Peters.

President Crowley announced that the college had been awarded $750,000 for a biomass boiler from the U.S. Department of Conservation and Forestry. The problem is that it is a matching grant and the college needs to raise $750,000 in matching funds.

President Crowley congratulated Barry Ingraham for his work on this grant.

The college will host two accreditation site visits the week of November 1, 2010.  The EMS program and the medical assisting program will both have accreditation teams on campus.

President Crowley has completed the interviews for the finalists for the medical assisting instructor position.

Barry Ingraham reported that Honeywell and Efficiency Maine will both be on campus the week of November 1, 2010.  Honeywell will be completing the measurement and verification walk thru, and the Efficiency Maine walk through will review the work completed with the grant funding.

Barry noted that there needs to faculty volunteers to train for the LMS piece of the Jenzabar software system. The expected implementation of this phase would be fall of 2011.

Dr. Egeler asked for the ready date for the spring schedule.  Ron Fitzgerald responded that his office should complete the reentering of the course data on November 2 or 3, and the course scheduled should be ready to be publish online by November 5.

Dr. Egeler noted that decision will need to be made on whether the advisors will review and sign off on student schedules.

Barry Ingraham commented that curriculum changes should not be made after students begin scheduling because the only way to make the changes to the student schedules would be manually.  Barry asked that a meeting be scheduled to discuss this issue.

Ron Fitzgerald has had a request from the library to close on November 24 and December 23 which are the days before Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. In the past, there has been no student activity in the library on these days. The management approved this request.  President Crowley noted any staff will need to fill out the necessary leave requests if they plan to be off work these days.

President Crowley reported that he had met with representatives of the Northern Maine Development Commission on campus on November 1.  He familiarized the participants with where and how the college wants to move forward in the future.

The NMCC General Advisory Council will meet on November 16, 2010.  President Crowley plans to share with the council a “white paper” he is developing on the where the college is now and where the college will be in the future.

President Crowley met with two students on October 25 to discuss their concerns regarding parking, refunds, and noise in the academic center.  President Crowley will meet with the students again the week of November 1 to continue the discussion.

Barry Ingraham reported that the systemwide implementation of business module for Jenzabar will be delayed.  He noted that the business portion will also be centralized.

The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully recorded,

Diane Peters
