The committee discussed creating policy/procedures for the security cameras.   The faculty management committee received a copy of a sample policy.  Placing cameras around campus is a good tool for safety and security.  A sub-committee will be formed to create the policy and submit it to the President’s Cabinet.

Computer rooms and the weight room are the only rooms with cameras.  The cameras were put in place because they were unsupervised rooms and funding was available at the time.  These cameras have been requested by various faculty and staff members over time in their area of responsibility.

Tom mentioned there was no written policy for the cameras in residential life internally or externally as of yet.

Barry mentioned Honeywell is working on a lighting retro fit for the campus this summer. Security identified the places where light is needed the most.  Tom mentioned the north end of res life needs more lighting.

We will form a subcommittee to create a policy for security cameras.  The subcommittee will include a representative from each department.  The subcommittee will be Shawn Lahey, Greg Thompson, Larry LaPlante, Tom Richard, Barry Ingraham, Sonny Michaud, Brian McDougal, Bob Rice, Betty Kent-Conant or other nursing faculty member.  Shawn will ask Karl Jackson or other business technology faculty member to join the committee.  The sub-committee will be meeting within the next few weeks.

Shawn mentioned there was an incident with the MSDS.  A dangerous chemical was used without a MSDS sheet on file.   We might have to do more training on MSDS for faculty and staff in the near future.

In the event of an emergency, employees may need to have a hard copy of the MSDS for emergency personnel.  Employees can print from their office computer or have the IT office print it for them.  We will discuss at a future meeting on the documented procedure on MSDS print outs.

Judy mentioned they shouldn’t use a chemical that replaces another.  She recommends using a safe (greenist) chemical to do the job.   This general statement should be added in the hazardous communications policy.

The hazardous communications policy states that a workplace audit needs to be done by January which we have not done.  The committee suggests the report needs to be filled out and returned by mid April.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 7 @ 9:00 a.m. in the 3rd floor conference room.
