  • Minutes from the December 14, 2012 meeting were approved by the committee.
  • The following curriculum proposals were moved, seconded and approved by the Curriculum Committee:

ARTS & SCIENCES DEPARTMENT

A new course MAT2XX – Calculus  - 4 class  hours and  4 credits. This class has a prerequisite of MAT151-College Algebra & Trig. A student can test out of MAT125 and go to a higher class or receive permission from an instructor. Not a required class.

NURSING & ALLIED HEALTH DEPARTMENT

The Medical Coding Certificate Program will now include courses from the HIT Program. This program will now consist of 3 semesters.

Medical Coding Certificate Program has been moved from the Business Technology Department into the Nursing & Allied Health Department.

Medical Assisting Program - The Pharmacology requirement course will now be HIT115-Clinical App. Pathophysiology & Pharmacology NOT NUR113-Pharmacology for Health Care Professionals. NUR113 will not be offered after summer 2013.

Nursing - Increase minimum passing in the major nursing courses from 73 to75.

Rename NUR113-Pharmacology for Health Care Providers to NUR1XX – Pharmacology for Nurses. This course will remain in the 1st semester and can be taken up to 2 years prior to entering NUR125-Foundations of Nursing. It is no longer offered in the MDA and EMS Programs.

Split NUR114-Health Promotion & Nutrition into two courses: NUR1XX- Nutrition - 3 class hours, 3 credits hours. The course remains in the 2nd semester

Rename NUR114-Health Promotion & Nutrition to NUT1XX – Introduction to Nutrition – 3 credit hours, 3 class hours.

Community Paramedicine Program:

New course EMS2XX-Leadership in EMS – 30 class hours 2 credit hours. Pre-requisite student must be matriculating in an EMS Program.

New course: EMS2XX –Community Paramedic Skills – lab hours 45  – 1 credit course with a pre-requisite of EMS243 and a co-requisite of EMS245. This change will effect the Community Paramedicine Certificate & Associate Degree Programs.

Remove NUR114-Health Promotion & Nutrition from the Community Paramedicine  Advanced Certificate Program and add EMS2XX-Leadership in EMS – 3 lab hours 1 credit hour. Also add EMS2XX – CP Skills Lab. (to ensure students can practice & demonstrate competence in all skills prior to field clinical experiences).

TRADE & TECH DEPARTMENT

Plumbing & Heating Program

New course: PLH2XX-Solid Fuel Equipment 1 class hour, 3 lab for a total of 2 credits. This course will affect the Plumbing & Heating AAS & Certificate programs. No prerequisites.

PLH127-Solar Thermal course – change from a 3 credit course, 2 lecture hours 2 lab to a 2 credit course, 1 lecture, 2 lab hours.

TEC109-Energy Auditing, Change from 2 lecture hours, 2 lab hours, total of 3 credits to 1 lecture hour, 2 lab hours a total of 2 credit hours. Also delete from the course description “This course will prepare students to sit for the BPI Certification as energy auditors”.

Automotive Technology Program

AUT125-Automotive Electronics – Change from 3 class hours to 2 lecture hours and 2 lab. Credit hours remain the same (3).

Welding & Metal Fabrication Program

Changes for WEI111-Oxyacetalene Welding to WEI1XX-Introduction to Welding. The course description will reflect the course content.

Changes for WEI134-Advanced Welding – 3 credits, 2 class, 2 lab hours to WEI1XX-Gas Metal Arc & Gas Tungsten Arc Welding – 3 credits, 2 class, 2 lab hours. Prerequisites will be WEI1XX-Introduction to Welding or WEI123 or WEI113 or WEI133.

BUISNESS TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The following curriculum action forms were tabled for the next Curriculum Committee meeting:

New program will be presented - Business Office Technology Associate in Applied Science Degree.

A request to rename SES113, SES123 and SES213.

A prerequisite for SES246-Medical Transcription to consist of training.

Replace CIS108- Spreadsheet Apps. or CIS129-Database Apps. with CIS118-Office Computer Apps.
