Charge:  Composed of representatives from each department/area of the college, this committee conducts safety audits as needed of all areas of the college and reports findings to area managers with a copy to the president and vice president.  Recommends to the vice president health and safety training and/or professional development activities, and engages in other action as appropriate to recommend actions to assure a healthy and safe environment for out students and employees

The committee moved to accept the February 28th minutes. In regards to the minutes the committee should follow up on the items that were discussed at the previous meeting.

Safety Training Update

 99% employees caught up on their training, adjunct need to do training too. Carl is working on the authorized lockout/tagout periodic inspections. Safety Works is offering a 10-hour OSHA course at the Career Center. Look into the Carpentry — Stands for house need to be engineered, stamped and inspected. Dave will look for an engineer to do that.

April is the deadline to respond to the 25 items on the report we still have 6 items to finish before we submit our report.

Graduation

 Held at the Forum. No cables through the walkways, throw rugs to cover them. Carl get crew together for parking and egress.  Have PIPD present. After going through all the specifics make sure no changes are made.

Around the table

Fred built a cart for caustic cleaner for the appropriate height with a lock and label. It will be in the room with the eye wash/shower station and Pam Buck will be in charge of it.

We are applying for MMA safety grant to get an eye wash/shower station.

The shops will be carrying z-kits instead of small first aid kits.

Rick mentioned Cary Medical Center is encouraging their staff to attend the  Safety Symposium workshop being held here at the college.

Barry spoke about the Biomass project; the boiler should be arriving on campus soon. Also, A & L Construction put a firewall between the boiler room and storage room. The project has been delayed for a couple months.

Brian McDougal’s office has been relocated to Andrews Hall due to construction in Building Science Lab.

Carl spoke about the confined space policy and a permit is required. Mike LaPlante from Safety Works agrees to get a permit for the required spaced. Barry and Carl are making safety walks throughout the campus every Friday.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 11th 9:00 a.m. in the 3rd floor conference room.
