Charge:  Composed of representatives from each department/area of the college, this committee conducts safety audits as needed of all areas of the college and reports findings to area managers with a copy to the president and vice president.  Recommends to the vice president health and safety training and/or professional development activities, and engages in other action as appropriate to recommend actions to assure a healthy and safe environment for out students and employees

Items of Business

 

·         Emergency Response Plan

 

-          President Crowley: Reached out to CMCC to speak with their consultant regarding their process.  The consultant is looking at the response plan.  NMCC is looking for help to run an exercise. 

-          Barry:  Gave an update on facilities review related to communication, access and the importance of secondary notification.  Notification of “everyone” is a major concern

-          There was a question on the estimated response time from the Presque Isle Police Department.

                   Reply from Peter and Barry, depending on what the PIPD is handling at the time, but response

                   is usually very quick.

 

Round Table

·         Tom – Relocation or additional handicap parking for Wellness Center

·         Rob – Level to maintain sustainable food in the event of an emergency, need to estimate cost and inventory needs for initial 24-48 hours

·         George – medical facility question; maybe use nursing lab if necessary since health center space is limited

·         Peter – door magnets for campus security vehicle to building visibility;

            Radios distributed and back in service

            Request for light for dash to serve as guide for emergency vehicles

            National Incident Management System Training – Jan 27th at UMPI

·         Barry – signs ordered for installation

            UMPI notification system

            Snow blower training for custodial staff

            Safety Symposium – March 28-31 at NMCC

·         Jon – Recommended that post response details be outlined in the ERP

·         Mike – No incidents to report since last meeting

            One pending Workers’ Comp case

·         Fred – Hearing audit dates?  Dottie will follow-up with Linda

·         Bill – Reminder of training of VAWA and Sexual Assault Prevention scheduled for Administrative Day, January 7, 2016

 

There was a question regarding the arming of security (gun, pepper spray, and/or Taser); much discussion followed.
