Charge: This committee considers curriculum or course proposals generated by department chairs/faculty or by the academic dean in response to unique service area needs and recommends to the academic dean action on the same.

The committee moved, seconded and approved the minutes from the December 20, 2010 meeting.

Business Technology

It was moved, seconded and approved by the committee to accept the new course – Keyboarding Fundamentals with a proposed level of 1XX -  class/lecture hours – 1, total credit hours – 1.

Trade Technology

The committee moved, seconded and approved to accept the new course – Airbrushing Techniques & Graphic Design with a proposed level of 2XX – class/lecture hours – 2 – lab/shop hours – 2 - total credit hours 3.

It was moved, seconded and approved to change the name SUR211-Surveying to SUR2XX-Construction Surveying. Prerequisites are MAT119 or MAT151.

The committee moved, seconded and approved to add MAT119-Applied Mathematics as a requirement to the first semester of the Computer Aided Drafting Technology Program. This will also prepare the students to take MAT151-College Algebra and Trig. MAT119 will be the pre-requisite for MAT151.

Brian proposed the following revisions to the listed plumbing courses:

PLH117-Plumbing 1A to PLH1XX - Plumbing Technology

PLH118-Plumbing 1B to PLH1XX - Plumbing Lab 1

PLH121-Plumbing II to PLH1XX - Plumbing Lab II

PLH122-Plumbing Code Review – Add pre-requisites – PLH113, PLH115, PLH117, and PLH118.

 

Bill Egeler had concerns with the number of major credit courses on the Plumbing curriculum sheet. Brian will review the curriculum sheet for Plumbing. These items are tabled for the next Curriculum Committee meeting.

 

The committee moved, seconded and approved to remove the “C” requirement for the course COE125-Computer Networking Hardware in the Wind Power Technology Program. This course is not a “core” requirement. This change should be retroactive for the graduating class of 2011.

 

Arts & Sciences

 

Dave Raymond and Jan Grieco presented a new course titled Oral History: Rediscovering and Preserving Community and Culture. This item is tabled for the next Curriculum Committee meeting.

 

Ron Fitzgerald reminded the committee the deadline for curriculum revisions to the Department Chairs is February 15, 2011. The last meeting for voting on curriculum items that impact Fall 2011 is March 14, 2011.

 

The next Curriculum Committee meeting scheduled is February 14 at 4:00 PM.
