Approval of meeting minutes from December 16, 2013 · Dick Duplessis moved to accept the minutes · Laura McPherson seconded the motion · Minutes approved Update from December meeting: · Lynne: Winter Event Tracker – Lynne developed a form that individuals on campus who are running events can fill out and return so we can gather information about what is happening on campus and who is attending; most events aren’t starting until February; this will give us information about student participation; information about events can help guide programming; Lynne will collect forms periodically and gather information; we can review February’s numbers at our next meeting; if committee members have feedback to change the form, get them to Lynne by next Friday, February 7 · Eric: Common Read – meeting at the end of February (26 or 27); books available at the library; students are already expressing interest · Johna: Working on transfer group meetings – three scheduled for the semester; Cindy has helped created a mailing list for students who would be interested in transfer information; first meeting in February · Lori: Career Services – three career workshops this semester (Feb, March, April); Lori will track attendance to gather numbers; developed a document for the Career Services portion of the website stating changes (adding resources; links; updated information) that should be made; these changes are pending; with the updated site, track hits and traffic to indicate how it is being used · Laura: Livescribe Pens – tracking how students who check out pens from ASC do in the classes they use them in to measure success – tracking objective data rather than just anecdotal data, which has been positive; use this information to “market” pens to other students. · Gail: For library, increase events and workshops; increase faculty participation in events (especially outside Arts & Sciences department); getting copies of textbook to put on reserve so students can access them at the library Other Business: · Bill – National Data Collection (iPeds) – tracking graduation rate data and looking at what happens to students over a longer period of time; we just finished compiling 2013 info for 2009 cohort; grad rate for 2 year = 29%, 3 years = 39%, 4 years = 47%. A target demographic to try to retain is young women, who are leaving at a higher rate than other students · Gail asked members to provide retention goals that can be built into the draft of the Retention Plan · Bill – possible MELMAC grants – possible project could be building resilience in students/individuals; those grants tend to be $30,000 - $50,000; John Gardner’s organization solicits proposals every year to look perform an audit and look at first year experience programs Professional Development Day: · Did a session on CSSEE results; can offer to share information at department meetings SSI Results · Share information with all faculty – distribute via email · Gail distributed results to committee members; areas that are starred should be highlighted and publicized · Consider flagged items in the SSI Adjournment The next committee meeting is scheduled for March 13, 2014 in Library Conference Room B Last changed: Jan 31 2014 at 9:47 AM Back |
