1. Minutes from January 20, 2010
The committee moved, seconded and approved the minutes from the January 20 meeting.
2. New Course Proposal for the Arts and Sciences Department
The committee moved, seconded and approved a new course proposal
Women in Literature-ENG2XX. This course will serve as an elective for all programs. It does require a prerequisite – ENG120-Introduction to Literature. This new course does meet a general education requirement as a humanities elective.
3. New Course Proposals for Allied and Health Department
The committee moved, seconded and approved the following new courses:
Pharmacology for the Health Care Professional – NUR1XX a 3-credit hour course and Health Promotion and Nutrition – NUR1XX a 3-credit hour course.
The committee approved to replace NUR119-Nursing Across Life Span I with a new course that has current course content to reflect the new course NUR1XX-Nutrition and Health Promotion a 3 credit course.
The committee approved the change to replace NUR116-Foundations of Nursing with a new course that has current course content to reflect the new course NUR1XX-Pharmacology for the Health Care Professional a 3 credit course.
A new course proposal was introduced CIS1XX-Introduction to PC Operating Systems. This course will provide an introduction overview of the most commonly used operation systems for personal computers.
It was proposed to remove BUS242-Small Business Management and replace it on the curriculum with BUS109-Entrepreneurship.
Also, CIS113-Intro to Microcomputer Applications will replace CIS107 Intro to Computer Applications. This change will reflect all of the business programs as well Early Childhood, Liberal Studies and MDA.
Remove CIS108-Spreadsheet Applications for Business and CIS118-Office Computer Applications as prerequisites from the course ACC234-Accounting Info Systems I.
Remove ACC211-Intermediate Accounting I as a pre-requisite from ACC225-Federal Taxation II.
The next proposed recommendation is replace COM212-Bus. Communications I prerequisite with BUS241-Principles of Marketing.
The last recommendation is to revise and update the course description for SES124-Medical Insurance Processing.
5. Recommendations only by Trade & Tech Department:
Requesting to change the credit hours for the course ELE114-Basic Residential Wiring from 1 credit hour to 3 credit hours. This will allow students from the Electrical Programs in Maine CTE’s to achieve dual-credit and enhanced articulation credit per Perkins requirement and joint effort of MCCS and the State regional CTE centers.
Brian is also proposing to change PMM120-Intro to CNC Programming, Setup & Operation 3 credit hour course to be split into two specific courses – one a lecture and the other a related lab.
Also a recommendation to change PMM210-Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing - 3 credit hour course to one lecture and the other a related lab.
The committee had concerns with the content of ELE114 and the splitting of PMM120 and PMM210 into lecture and lab.
Brian also mentioned to the group that he has another curriculum change with one of the Wind Power courses. More searching is needed before a change can take place at this time.
