Charge:  Composed of representatives from each department/area of the college, this committee conducts safety audits as needed of all areas of the college and reports findings to area managers with a copy to the president and vice president.  Recommends to the vice president health and safety training and/or professional development activities, and engages in other action as appropriate to recommend actions to assure a healthy and safe environment for out students and employees

The committee moved to accept the December minutes as corrected. The committee discussed arming security. Also, change from Res Life to Res Life students may have the option to leave their weapons at the fish and game club. In regards to the minutes the committee should follow up on the items that were discussed at the previous meeting.

 

  1. Old Business

 

  1. Respiratory and Hearing Tests

  1. Tom needs documentation of respiratory tests, he has documentation of hearing tests.

  1. Incidents

  1. Carl needs to send a campus wide email on proper footwear during the winter season. He will also have it noted in the newsletter.

  2. Washington Hall Boiler Room Alarm went off on January 14th @ 8:00 p.m. When evacuating the building Res Life staff thought it was a fire alarm, everyone evacuated to Snow Hall. They thought it was an emergency, when in doubt they pulled the alarm. Kevin from Securitas was on duty and he created a SOP.

  3. Security detected water backed up and went into duct work. It is very critically for security to do a walk through each night.

  1. Safety Training

i) Bureau of Labor Standards

a) SHAPE Program – We have submitted all the paperwork for the SHAPE Program. The 3 day inspection will be held April 16, 17, and 18. Training records are up to date. Carl will get with Shannon to have work study students complete training before they start work study job.

2) New Business

 

i) Yearly Policy Review

a) All policies are online under the IT-Facilities tab, Safety Information.

b) The committee will go through these policies at the February meeting

  • Bloodborne Pathogens

  • Confined Spaces

  • Emergency Action Plan

  • Fire Prevention

c) The committee will go through these policies at the March meeting

  • Electrical Safety

  • Emergency Medical Aid – First Aid

  • Hot Work

  • Safety and Health Program

d) The committee will go through these policies at the April meeting

  • Hazard Communication

  • LOTO Program

  • Fork Lift Policy

  • Hearing Conservation Program

  • VDT Policy

  1. Carl and Barry have unofficial policies that need to be written. If anyone is

interested in writing these policies please let one of them know. We are looking for someone on campus to collect information for the policies. Carl will mention it to the department chairs. We can reach out to other resources to help with our policies.

  1. Get input from maintenance and trade and tech areas on mechanical and small equipment policy.

  2. Ban Smoking on campus – The board is going to vote today to pass not smoking policy – we need to form a policy for our campus.

 

K) Other Business

i) Fire extinguisher and smoke detector inspection was on December 20th in Res Life

ii) Maintenance and custodians took care of ice on campus. The drain issues are currently being looked at

 

Next committee meeting will be moved to 1:00 p.m. The committee moved to accept the change in time of meeting.
