Professional Development

 Charge:      

The charge of this committee is to develop and implement a comprehensive professional development plan to sustain the career growth of all employees. The committee will examine existing professional development practices and strategies and will explore, propose, support implementation, and evaluate new approaches.  A primary function of this committee is to communicate professional development activities and opportunities to the campus community.

I.      Approved minutes from last meeting

II.      January Professional Development Day

a)      Feedback to presenters – Dottie will have the evaluation cards scanned and filed, and Jen will forward the evaluations to the appropriate presenters.

b)      Final thoughts – The consensus is that there is a need for more Jenzebar (E-racer) training. Dottie is working with Dave Raymond on a training day at the end of the semester.

III.      Professional Development Forms

a)      Online version of tracking form – Karl to work on a user friendly electronic form and Shawn will post on the Portal.

b)      Review forms submitted – see items A & B under “Communication”

c)      Revise “Requesting for Funding” form - tabled

IV.      Lunch and Learn

a)      Schedule for Spring/Presenters – The first Lunch & Learn (Teaching On-line Courses) will be held Wednesday, February 15, 12 – 1 p.m. in the Library Conference Room.  Dottie will send an email announcing the event. Jen will contact/schedule future sessions with Shawn Lahey, Gail Roy, Paul LaJoie and Elizabeth Crawford. We will use the same evaluation cards that were used for the January 12 Professional Development Day for the Lunch & Learn series.

V.      Communication

a)      For staff –  Elizabeth will meet with senior management to determine how best to meet with their departments, to discuss “staff” professional development needs, ways in which we can meet those needs, and the use of PD forms . Elizabeth will talk with Kim Ferguson about joining this committee, as another voice to represent staff.

b)      Faculty – Elizabeth will meet with the department chairs to discuss ways in which to encourage faculty use of the PD forms, how/when the data might be collected and a method to provide feedback on the forms.  Dottie is promoting the use of the PD forms at her individual meetings with faculty this semester.
