The meeting was called to order at 10 am by Dave Raymond, Chair of the Curriculum Committee

Approval of minutes from last meeting was not mentioned. Table for next  meeting.

New Business:

The following curriculum forms were presented to the committee:

Business Technology

  1. Medical Office Administration AAS program is to replace the General Education Elective with Art/Humanities/Social Science Elective in the 4th semester.
  2. Accounting Information Systems AAS program is to replace COM111-Speech with Art/Humanities/Social Science Elective in the 3rd semester.
  3. Business Administration AAS program is to replace COM111-Speech with Art/Humanities/Social Science elective in the 3rd semester.

All three (3) of the above Business Technology changes will bring the programs into compliance with the recent change by MCCS.

Arts & Sciences

  1. A new course Electrical Math-MAT1XX-4 credit course was presented. This course replaces MAT117-Electrical Mathematics and MAT127-Electrical Mathematics II. The course substitute is MAT151-College Algebra & Trig. The combination of the MAT117 and MAT127 curriculum aligns the course better with the relative trade curriculum.
  2. A new course Reading and Writing Fundamentals-ENG0XX-4 credit course was presented. This course replaces ENG009-Reading Fundamentals and ENG012-Developmental Writing. Student must have a grade of C or better.

Trade & Tech

  1. WEI133-Electric  Welding – add pre-requisites-WEI111-Oxyacetylene Welding or WEI113-Thin Metals Welding or WEI123-Oxyacetylene Electric Welding
  2. A new course Wind Turbine Mechanical Systems - WPT21X-3 credit course with 2 lecture hours and 3 lab hours. Prerequisites for this class are: WPT113-Safety Fundamentals for Wind Techs., WPT115-Concepts or Wind Power Tech and PHY150-Physics. Presently in the catalog 2010-2012 it is showing WPT223-2 class hours and 3 lab hours but the lab hours were in error.
  3. A new course Introduction to Wind Power Industry-WPT1XX-2 credit course with 1 lecture hour and 2 lab hours. This course replaces WPT123-Residential Wind Technology. No prerequisites but WPT123 can serve as a substitute.
  4. The proposed revisions to the Computer Electronics program:

·         Dropping MAT117 & MAT127-Electrical Mathematics I and II. Replace it with MAT1XX-Electrical Mathematics as a combined 4 credit course.

·         Add the additional Art/Humanities/Social Science elective so it is in compliance with the recent change by the MCCS.

·         MAT1XX-Elecrical Math can be substituted by MAT117 and MAT127 in the following programs: Computer Electronics, Electrical Construction and Wind Power Technology.

  1. The proposed revisions to the Electrical Construction & Maintenance program:

·         Drop MAT117 & MAT127-Electrical Mathematics I & II as a combined 4 credit course

·         Add the additional Art/Humanities/Social Science elective so it is in compliance with the recent change by the MCCS.

  1. The proposed revisions to the Wind Power Technology program:

·         Drop WPT123-Residential Wind Technology  and add the new course WPT1XX-Introduction to Wind Power Technology

·         Drop MAT117 & MAT127-Electrical Mathematics I and II and add new course MAT1XX-Electrical Math as a 4 credit course.

·         Add one (1) Art/Humanities/Social Science elective

·         Move Physics to the 2nd semester

·         Drop DIB113-Digital Basics and Drop ELC116-National Electrical Code for Industry and replace it with ELC110-National Electrical Code to 2nd semester. ELC116 can be substituted for ELC110.

Meeting was adjourned. The next scheduled Curriculum Committee meeting is February 15 at 10 am in Martin 213-2 classroom.
