Called to order at 12: 48 P.M.

Corrections to the minutes of the previous meeting were noted, and Brian McDougal moved to accept as corrected, seconded by Sue Dugal, and unanimously approved.

       I.            Discussion of Medical Assisting Mapping Model and development and alignment of common language to establish mapping models.

Recommendations or motions: The discussion was vigorous and focused on the language to use in assessment, especially the terms objectives vs. outcomes. The committee studied Sue Dugal’ mapping model and information from the assessment book. There was discussion that program goals should be on the top of the matrix and be very brief. It was also recommended that program objectives should be the term for what are called program outcomes in the catalog, and should be written as bullet points. It was also decided that one category should be skills and proficiencies, then standards and benchmarks that include such things as external and national licensing, and finally performance indicators, which are quantitative results. (A copy of a model based on this information is attached.

Jan Grieco found that official program objectives are included in program reviews and must be approved by the System Educational Policy Committee in Augusta before they can be changed. Only three program reviews were completed during 2008-2009 and those were: precision metals, nursing, and residential construction. This information raised questions about what to do regarding Accounting Information Systems new outcomes and mapping. It was decided that since AIS has not gone through program review, that the committee will abandon curriculum mapping there at this point.

Laura McPherson and Colleen Harmon will begin working on visual curriculum mapping of the Business Administration Program instead.

All committee members are charge with reading Chapter 15 of the Suskie book for the next meeting which will be March 5 at 12:30 p.m. in the library.

The meeting adjourned at 2:28 p.m.
