Charge:  Composed of representatives from each department/area of the college, this committee conducts safety audits as needed of all areas of the college and reports findings to area managers with a copy to the president and vice president.  Recommends to the vice president health and safety training and/or professional development activities, and engages in other action as appropriate to recommend actions to assure a healthy and safe environment for out students and employees

The committee moved to accept the January minutes.  In regards to the minutes the committee should follow up on the items that were discussed at the previous meeting. 3rd Floor Conference Room

1)      Old Business

·         MSDS computers were checked during security rounds inspections and a few don’t work, it could be due to power outage

·         Fire blanks for automotive and auto collision shops have been ordered

·         E-stops in diesel and carpentry are completed – they are tested yearly

·         Bureau of Labor Standards

·   SHAPE – Award received

·   MMA grants approved

·      Todd didn’t order forklift jack, the requisition is in progress

·         Safety Training

·         Training records

·      Entry nearly completed

·      nursing adjunct (clinical) need to take our training or get their own

·         Need to keep up with monthly training for maintenance and custodial staff

·         LOTO Authorized Personnel inspections continuing – 13 completed

·         Touch base with Rick Taggett on forklifts, Bob Collins may be interested in train the trainer for forklifts during the Safety Symposium

·         Evacutrack training needs to be conducted, Kurt will conduct training

·         Incidents

·         Student fell in front of Martin court yard

·         Security guard fell Sunday night

·         Carl is getting copies of incident reports

i)        Required Yearly Review (Policy last review dates added)

·         Bloodborne – 3/12/14 - George will review and bring back to committee

·         Electrical – 5/12/14

·         Emergency Action Plan 9/17/14

·         Rob mentioned adding food & essentials to this policy

·         Emergency Contact Info – 4/3/13 – Nikki will review and bring back to committee

·         Fire Prevention – 5/12/14 – Bob will review and bring back to committee

·         Hazard Communication – 5/13/14

·         Hearing Conservation – 5/12/14

·         Lockout Tagout – 11/17/14

·         Respirator Policy – 5/12/14 – Bob reviewed policy, one typo on Page 7, section E, correct the word duff to be doff

·         Safety and Health Policy – 9/8/14 – Shawn will review and bring back to committee

·         VDT Policy – 5/12/14 – Shawn will review and bring back to committee

ii)            Periodic Review

·         Confined Spaces

·         First Aid Policy – 2/24/14 – Kurt will review and bring back to committee

·         Forklift Policy – 4/8/14

·         Hot Work Policy – 5/13/14

2)      New Business

A)    Boiler room – loss of power, need back up power, check with EMA on grant

B)    MSDS software – Leave old system as it is and make a new database for the new SDS system

C)    Training software

·         Take MMS online training and convert onto our system

·         The safety training needs to be refined

·         Subcommittee – Carl Allen, Joe McLaughlin, Shawn Lahey, Karl Jackson, Barry Ingraham and Dave Wyman

D)    Other Business

·         Need to make a policy for a protocol for power outage

·         Make a checklist

·         Tom needs an AED in the new Wellness Center, bring one from the electrical wing and put by the desk near the Wellness Center

·         Inspect with MMA today, Carl will get a copy of the inspection to the shops

·         Stop using the Plumbing & Heating mezzanine for storage, issues with the        floors

·         Welding issues – need cap on cylinders

·         Automotive floor grates

·         Fire extinguishers being blocked

·         Compliment Bob Rice’s shop

·         Concerns on the voluntary use for respiratory policy in Automotives

·         Pam requests a laser beam safety device for the overhead doors in the Mailman Building shops

·         Bob mentioned during winter break the refrigerators in Res. Life were unplugged without the students knowledge
