Our general safety training is now 100% complete for full time employees. Forklift training is scheduled on Friday, February 4th with SafetyWorks.

Management group need to make minor adjustments to the first aid policy.

Judy presented a new product using ozone charged water system called Lotus Pro from Maine Paper Products. Rob also uses a similar system in the kitchen. We can use this product for a 1 month free trial basis and if not satisfied can return it. An MSDS is available in the packet given to each member of the committee. Other facilities are using the product such as local school and nursing homes. We will have a representative from the company meet with the subcommittee to speak about the product. Members of the subcommittee will be Judy, Rob, Greg, Larry, Shawn, Tom and sales rep.

Larry mentioned that the new vendor for bio hazard waste is Oxius Environmental from Pittsfield, Maine. They will pick up the bio hazard waste end of each semester. In the meantime, contact custodial if any bio hazardous waste needs to be stored. Judy or Greg has red bags if needed. The campus’ collection site is the AP Prep Room.

Larry has seen very few reportable slips, trips and falls.

Barry mentioned eye wash bottles have been purchased for the custodial staff and are placed in a bottle caddy on their carts. All custodial staff has been trained to use the eyewash bottles. These bottles will serve as a quick, secondary system to get them to a primary eye wash station in the event of an emergency.

Barry also mentioned the air emissions report was sent out on February 1, 2011. The Andrews Hall project is in design phase. There is an issue with the smoke barriers, which may become a summer project.

Tom noted they had fire drills in Residential Life in Andrews and Snow Halls on February 28th @ 3:00 p.m. The fire department and seacoast were contacted before the drills. In the future day and evening fire drills should be scheduled. Also smoke detectors and fire extinguishers were checked in Snow, Penobscot, Washington and Andrews Hall. They found only a few replacements and forms were kept on file.

Jennifer mentioned notifying employees of locations of the new first aid kits.

Daryl mentioned Dr. Esquibel requests installing Purell dispensers in the nursing areas. Having the Purell dispensers will show the nurses good nursing practices. The cafeteria has 4 dispensers and gets a lot of use. It was recommended she fill out a requisition for her request and maintenance can install them.

The next meeting is scheduled for March 2nd @ 9:00 a.m. in the 3rd Floor Conference Room.
