FACULTY OVERLOAD PAY RATE  Chuck Kelley reviewed a document prepared by Dwight Clayton which compared the value of the current $30/hr rate with the value in the year 2000 when it was adopted.  Also discussed was a document detailing 2007 & 2008 part-time faculty pay for classes at UMPI.  Faculty members proposed an increase to $40/hr with stepped increases for inflation.  Tim suggested that indexed increases be linked to labor contract increases.  Greg asked if additional fees could be used to fund an increase.  Tim explained that all new fees (except pass-through fees) have to be approved at the system level.  All members were in agreement that there should be an increase in the overload rate and that it should be indexed to something.  Additional information in the following areas would be required to finalize a new rate structure.

·         Redefine overload rate vs adjunct rate vs FT faculty teaching adjunct (night) classes.

·         Adjunct rates for Husson.

·         Larry – Analyze economic impact that rate increase will have on the college’s budget.

·         Chuck – Check with other CC Faculty Association presidents on overload rates.

·         Tim – Provide information on adjunct rates and FT faculty/adjunct ratios at other CC’s.

·         Chuck – Check with Tim Wooton on adjunct faculty representation with MSEA or MEA.

WORKPLACE SAFETY  Current policies and procedures are being reviewed and updated by a safety sub-committee.  Management is looking for support from the Faculty Association to promote compliance with campus policies.  Two areas discussed were Hazardous Material Communications Program and forklift training.  Chuck will bring it up at the next FA meeting and will e-mail members to offer an opportunity to provide input to the sub-committee as policies are being updated.  The suggestion of more relevant yearly safety training was also raised as a way to develop a more safety conscious workplace.

Meeting Adjourned.
