Tim — A couple committee members may be interested in chairing the safety committee.

Larry — It’s good time for Karen to put a section in the newsletter on wearing appropriate footwear to prevent slip, trips and falls.

Carl — Meeting with Sam Knight from Safety Works on January 18th for inspections. Should have review ready along with a check list before his arrival. Prepare a copy of the checklist to each supervisor to fix problems in their area. Copies should also go to department chair and individual responsible for that area. There are a few areas that are a concern. The eye wash stations are missing eye cups. Need to order eye cups from the manufacturer. Also, the bookstore needs to clean up the storage area in back of store. Rob is working with Becky to move some things out of the bookstore.

Tom- We should get safety involved for “Professional Development Administration Day.” Rob suggested having a section focused on dietary.

Greg — An information sheet should be given to all employees on how to use the MSDS on the computer. Employees should use it at least once a month to keep up on their skills. It was suggested that Karl Jackson do training for staff.

Carl — The fall protection policy was not found. Carl will up a policy which will include contractors and bring it back to the committee.

We now have safety gear for visitors on campus such as hard hats and safety glasses that are located in Carl’s office. College tours should have safety gear in a certain color. Carl will schedule a meeting with Bill and Gene on this. We need to get in the habit of wearing eye protection.

Make adjustments to some chemicals. The ionized water that is being used by custodians is a good product but needs to be used within 15 minutes to sanitize with.

Need to have training on blood borne pathogens advanced, lockout/tagout, hazardous communications, hearing testing. Dave Guerrette and Daryl Bouchard agreed to do training for these. Training will also be available online.

Hazard assessments are done by the shops. The current assessments will be done by the instructor. The Wind power program hasn’t had one. Include new equipment on assessment.

Security personnel are keeping a better 10 g than in the past. Security personnel need more duties to keep them busy. Carl suggested giving them the duty of checking fire extinguishers when needed.

Doors are being left unlocked and magnets are being placed between doors to keep them from locking. The Christie lobby door won’t latch at times. A work order needs to be submitted.

There are issues with some individuals smoking where it’s not prohibited. The smoker needs to be identified and student disciplinary action needs to take place.

The proposal for the parking policy needs to be changed. It was suggested to have more vehicles towed if they can’t abide by the parking policy. Also, the area between commuter and resident can be turned into staff parking if needed.

Rob — Offering a rewards program with his staff. They are rewarded for safety practices.

Judy — Stairs from the 3rd floor need some serious repair. Fred ordered supplies to fix the stairs.

Rug in Room 206 needs to be repaired and rug in Snow Hall lobby is needed. We will have custodians look to see where rugs are needed around campus.

Rob suggested having Unifirst replace new rugs. Rob will get the information from them.

Dave — The MMA presentation for VDT/Ergonomics, Slips/Trips/Falls and Back Injury went very well.

The next meeting is scheduled for February 1st @ 9:00 a.m. in the 3rd floor conference

room.
