1.    Old Business – Minutes from December 3, 2007

Minutes from the December 3, 2008 Curriculum meeting were moved, seconded and approved.

2.    Arts and Sciences Department – Votes on Course Proposals

The following new courses were moved, seconded and approved:

PHIXXX-Everyday Ethics
HIS2XX-Maine History
COM2XX-Mass Communications: Media and Culture
ENG0XX-Reading Basics Review
ENG0XX-Basic Grammar Review
MAT0XX-Basic Algebra Review
MAT0XX-Basic Math Review

3.    Business Technology Department – Course and Curriculum Proposals

The committee discussed three new course proposals:

a.    BUS1XX-Entrepreneurship: An Introduction – A change was suggested to drop introduction and name the course just Entrepreneurship

b.    ACC1XX-Computerized Accounting.

c.    ACC1XX-Payroll Accounting


The Business Technology Department also submitted the following curriculum revisions:

d.    A proposed change to the Office Assistant Certificate program was to add ACC1XX-Computerized Accounting  and replace COM212-Business Communications I with ACC1XX-Payroll Accounting.

e.    The proposed course prerequisite changes to BUS229-Human Resource Management-replace BUS229-Principles of Management prerequisite with COM212-Business Communications I as a prerequisite. Take the course BUS241-Principles of Marketing and remove CIS107-Intro. To Computer Applications as a prerequisite and keep COM212-Business Communications I and add “or instructor’s permission.”  Also it was requested to take the course BUS242-Small Business Management and remove all prerequisites except for COM212-Business Communications I and the prerequisite should read “Senior level standing in the Bus. Administration Program and COM212-Buisness Communications I/or permission of the instructor.

f.    The proposed changes to the Accounting Information Systems program is to replace MAT210-Statistics with MAT115-Business Mathematics.

In the Business Administration program and the Computer Systems Technology program the change requested is to replace Math/Science elective with MAT115-Business Mathematics.

4.    Nursing and Allied Health Department

The Nursing and Allied Health Department brought forward the following curriculum revisions:

Name changes for four EMS courses. These changes will make it more consistent with our sister campuses in the Maine Community College System. EMS205 course content revised to remove lab component and increase lecture. Lab experience covered in EMS115, where lecture content reduced to accommodate increase in lab.

EMS119-Intermediate Field Externship - change name to EMS1XX-Intermediate Clinical Externship I

EMS128-Intermediate Clinical Preceptor - change name to EMS1XX-Intermediate Clinical Externship II

EMS224-Paramedic Clinical Preceptorship - change name to EMS2XX-Paramedic Clinical Externship I

EMS218-Paramedic Field Externship - change name to EMS2XX-Paramedic Clinical Externship II.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:55 p.m. The next scheduled Curriculum Committee meeting will be on December 17 at 2:00 p.m., third floor, Martin building, conference room. (That meeting was cancelled due to weather)
