Environmental Health & Safety Minutes:
The committee accepted the November minutes with no changes. This will be our last meeting of the semester. Our safety training is down to 4% incomplete. The subcommittee has been looking at the administration of policy/procedures on safety. What are we doing with each policy/procedure and who is responsible for it. We are 2/3 of our way through with the subcommittee. The subcommittee needs to review what is already written and will bring it back to the safety committee when it’s complete. Barry noted they are still discussing the purchasing procedures for the hazardous communications. Tim mentioned the administration should be required to take a 10 hour OSHA course. Also, when hiring new employees it needs to be looked at what safety training is needed before work starts. In regards to the First Aid Policy the AED should be added to it. The first aid kit should be maintained and placed near fire extinguishers across campus. If the seal on the first aid kit is broken it will be replaced. All first aid kits have been ordered and will be put in place by the end of the year. Daryl stated that the standards require an incident report be filled out. Tom suggested that we have documentation in the first aid kit. Incidents should be reported to your supervisor. Documentation for incidents is available on the portal. Bill mentioned the students have been using their snow mobiles improperly causing speed and noise complaints. Students are tearing up lawns on and off campus. They have been warned by the police. Snow mobile registration on campus has increased this year. Students have access to a map of available trails in the area. Bill also wanted to remind people to lock their vehicles due to vandalism in the parking lots by people off campus. Greg noted that TAMC is no longer accepting biohazard materials from the college. The company will pick up the waste directly. Bob mentioned he attended a seminar on regulation 40 EPA dealing with ventilation and spray equipment. He got a grant to purchase new spray equipment to make them more compliant. Larry received the MMA report. We have 3 items to work on and report back to them by January 4th. Barry reported the breaker issue in Joe McLaughlin’s lab broke again. We are having trouble resetting it. We have ordered a new breaker. We can use the broken breaker in case of an emergency. Rob mentioned he got a visit from Ecolab to do a safety inspection. It was a good visit with minor issues. He had a few MSDS sheets that were missing but took care of it. We need to take temperature of food when it’s delivered and a bottle of sanitizer had no label. Rob is working with Barry and Larry on getting a maintenance person to deal with the operation in the kitchen such as refrigeration and mechanical systems. We are currently using local services but equipment and appliance repair people aren’t always available. Dave mentioned there is an issue with the water coolers. Since the company has not been filling them people have been getting water in the bathrooms which is a health issue. If you need water go to the bookstore or the water fountains around campus. If the water fountains aren’t working, do a work order and Leo will take a look at it. We have replaced several eye wash stations on campus. An eye wash station will be placed in the nursing wing. Custodians are in need of eye wash stations. Rick mentioned the poor lighting between the welding shop and auto collision shop. It should be looked at; we have a lot of trade classes in the evening. The next meeting is scheduled for February 2nd @ 9:00 a.m. in the 3rd floor conference room. Last changed: Feb 03 2011 at 9:17 AM Back |
