Charge:  Composed of representatives from each department/area of the college, this committee conducts safety audits as needed of all areas of the college and reports findings to area managers with a copy to the president and vice president.  Recommends to the vice president health and safety training and/or professional development activities, and engages in other action as appropriate to recommend actions to assure a healthy and safe environment for out students and employees

A few corrections were made to the March minutes.  It was listed that Kim Ferguson was present at the meeting, but did not attend.  Under confined spaces, Label Buildings – the Wellness and Student Center will be added at a later time. The committee moved to accept the March minutes as corrected.  In regards to the minutes the committee should follow up on the items that were discussed at the previous meeting.

 

1)      Old Business

 

A)    Safety Training

i)    Safety Symposium held on March 31, April 1 & 2 turned out well.

     ii)   LOTO Authorized Personnel inspections

iii)   Bureau of Labor Standards

·         SHAPE Program – The 3 day inspection will be held April 16, 17, and 18.  Sam Knight will be performing the inspection. The 1st day will mainly pertain to paperwork.  The 2nd day will be the inspection and the 3rd day will be follow up. 

     iv)  Policy Review

·         Electrical Safety

·         Emergency Medical Aid – First Aid

·         Hot Work

·         Hazard Communication – (Appendix C) – Change MSDS to SDS.  The library            archives SDS paper copies only

·         LOTO program

·         Fork lift policy – Document that Bob Rice will conduct the hands on training.

·         Hearing Conservation program

·         VDT policy

-       Give Carl your comments on the policy reviews and he will bring back to     the committee at the next meeting.

B)    Incidents

i)        Carpel tunnel incident

ii)      Slip, trip and fall incident

iii)    Aramark vehicle backed into a Fed Ex truck by the loading zone near the bookstore but no damages.

iv)    Electrical issue in the business office – wiring shortage, wrong size wiring.  There was no fire.  We will have all other boxes checked to prevent any further issues.

C)    Smoking Policy Update

i)        Dottie passed around to the committee KVCC’s smoking policy. 

ii)      We will get free signage with the by advertising for the signage company.

iii)    We will repurpose the smoking hut after the policy goes in effect.  The committee is open to any suggestions.

2)      New Business

A)    Hazard Assessment Review – Due in August.  Carl will get with Kurt to go through the medical portion. 

B)    The parking policy will go back in effect starting fall semester.  The new parking policy has been approved.

 

Next committee meeting will be held on May 14th @ 1:00 p.m.
