The Emergency Management group was activated due to the flood in the Fort Kent. Tim and Alan had to leave the meeting early to prepare for students who will be staying on campus from the University of Maine at Fort Kent that is currently flooded.

George Howe of the Federal Emergency Management Agency from the City of Presque Isle was at the meeting to discuss the National Exercise Program.  The exercise will consist of different departments throughout the county including police, fire, EMS, and state police. There will be nobody from the federal level involved.  The tentative date is May 22nd for the table top exercise to give a heads up on the exercise and how different departments will handle the situation.   The actual date for the exercise is planned for September 20th in the mailman building with approximately 120 people involved. The situation will be a bomb on the bus with perpetrators with a suitcase and guns going into the building.

It would be a great opportunity for the campus community, excellent PR and learning curve and the mailman building would be a good location.  It was questioned if people would be volunteering and what age group would be involved.

Larry questioned what the identified needs would be and what funds would be available.

The committee moved to participate and motioned to accept.

Betty made a correction to the minutes to the last meeting about a student being stuck by a contaminated needle. Policies at every level were followed.

The bloodborne exposure control plan was reviewed had no changes needed to be made All were in favor to accept the document for an annual review.

The committee reviewed the energy control program.   All of the Energy Control Procedures were reviewed.  The procedures were looked at as part of the annual reviews required.  We identified 3 items in the automotive shop that need procedures written, two automotive lifts and an alignment machine.   It was recommended to do things differently next year, to do an area once a month.

The integrated contingency plan is still ongoing.  CES will write the plan.

There was oil found in John Johnson’s maintenance shop.  The oil came from the big sander, bucket truck plow.  It was dug up and put in barrels and put in a place to dry.

The fire drills were scheduled for April 16th Christie/Martin building and April 18th for the Mailman trades building and auto body.  Both drills were under 5 minutes.  There were a few issues during the drill.  People came back into the building before everything was all clear and the fire exits were not cleared.  Even though there were a few issues overall it went well with no failures.

Betty had an incident off campus with an EMS student on April 8th at approximately 9 a.m.  Crown ambulance was in an accident and an EMS student was in the back seat with their seat belt on.  The air bags deployed.  They had short term injury to their knee that was put into a splint.  Everything with the incident has been resolved.

This was the last meeting for the academic year.  Have a nice summer and we will see you next fall.
