Students, faculty, and staff members have the privilege of using a vehicle on campus. Established rules and regulations with clear-cut procedures will help prevent congestion, insure the safety of individuals, and protect private and state property.
PROCEDURE
Registration
- All vehicles operated on campus will be registered through the Business Office.
- The parking decal issued should be placed on the rear bumper or rear window, driver’s side.
- When there is a change in the vehicle being used, or when a decal becomes mutilated, a new parking decal must be procured.
Rules and Regulations
- No vehicle may be operated on campus roads if such operation is in violation of any state or local municipal law or ordinance.
- The speed limit on the campus is fifteen (15) miles per hour.
- All warning and stop signs must be obeyed.
- Parking areas for student vehicles are identified on maps and by signs. Other parking areas are designated for faculty, staff and visitors.
- Students are to park only in areas designated for their use – “head in.”
- Any person using campus parking areas is expected to cooperate during periods of snow removal by moving his/her vehicle promptly when requested.
- Motor vehicles using parking areas shall be in operating condition at all times.
- Owners of vehicles not in operating condition must make arrangements with the Maintenance Department.
- Parking or driving on walks or cultivated areas is prohibited.
- Motor vehicles are not to be left on campus during vacation periods or advance arrangements are to be made with the Maintenance Director.
- Dormitory students absent from campus without their vehicle will make arrangements with the Resident Director to have the vehicle moved in case of emergency.
- Excessive noise by driver or occupant of an automobile or otherwise operating in a manner that is dangerous or a discredit to the college, is prohibited.
Enforcement
The President has appointed, in accordance with Maine statues, an enforcement officer.
This officer shall, within the limits of the property under the control of NMCC, possess all of the powers of a police officer in criminal cases. The rules and regulations above have the same force and effect as municipal ordinances, and district courts are authorized to impose fines not to exceed $10 for each violation.
The officer will issue traffic tickets to violators.
Penalties
- All fines for campus tickets are to be paid at the Business Office within ten (10) days after issuance, Saturday and Sunday excepted.
- After the ten day period the fine will be added to the individual’s account and an additional $1 collection fee charge.
- Individuals with unpaid accounts are liable under Maine statutes for a summons issued for the District Court at Presque Isle.
Fine Schedule
First violation $5.00
Second violation $7.50
Third violation $10.00
Fourth and each subsequent violation $10.00
After five tickets, disciplinary action will be taken through Dean of Students office.
