Subject: Professional Development

Effective: 3/15/2008
Professional development for all employees is important to the development of the College. The Maine Community College System’s benchmarks for professional development and the College’s strategic plan provide direction and support for the development of the College’s employees. It serves the best interests of the College, of the students, and of the employee to engage in annual professional development.
Professional development activities may or may not require funding. Where funding is required, the employee should prepare an annual professional development plan. This plan should be as detailed as possible regarding specific development activities and objectives, and should be submitted to the employee’s immediate supervisor by no later than May 31 of the year preceding the development activity to the extent that this is possible in order to accommodate budgeting. It is understood that some development opportunities arise throughout the course of the year that may not be anticipated or planned in advance. These opportunities, however, should be incorporated into the annual plan accordingly.
The employee may be required to complete other application procedures or provide other documentation as required by grant funding sources.
Only previously approved professional development activities will be funded by the College.
