Welcome to employment in the Maine Community College System.  You are joining a group of professional educators and staff who are very dedicated to higher education in the State of Maine.  Please feel free to contact my office at any time if you have questions concerning your employment or the benefit package, which includes the items below.

TIME SHEETS - Support staff: Each employee completes a weekly attendance report.  On the last day worked of the pay period, the time sheet is to be signed and given to your supervisor.  Your supervisor will sign the time sheet and turn it in to the Business Office.  Paychecks are issued on Wednesdays, 12 days after the end of the pay period.

Faculty & Administrators: Complete a weekly leave request form whenever sick/vacation or leave days are used.  Give your signed request form to your supervisor who will sign and submit the form to the Business Office.

NEW HIRE DATA FORM – Complete information on lower portion of the form beginning with social security number.

FORM W-4A – Tax Withholding

FORM I-9 – Verification of U.S. citizenship.  Complete and present with identification (most commonly used are driver’s license and social security card).

STATE RETIREMENT APPLICATION & GROUP LIFE INSURANCE – Complete all pertinent information; signatures must be witnessed; NMCC contributes 29.72% and each employee pays 6.5% of bi-weekly salary; Basic Life Insurance is paid by the employer at .26 per $1,000 of insurance equal to your annual salary; supplemental life insurance is paid by you at the same rate; except for administrators who have employer paid supplemental equal to the basic; dependent life insurance is paid by you at .89 for Plan A or 1.57 for Plan B per paycheck.  NMCC may deny membership to adjunct faculty members and part time, seasonal or temporary employees.

MEDICARE – NMCC and the employee each contribute 1.45% of salary.

STATEMENT OF HEALTH – Complete information, obtain a witness to your signature, and retain copy.

HEALTH INSURANCE APPLICATION – Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield HMO Choice for major medical; employer pays for employee coverage and 60% of family.  Coverage begins the first of the month following a 30-day waiting period.  You will receive your individual policy directly at www.anthem.com. 

DENTAL INSURANCE APPLICATION – Northeast Delta; employer pays for employee only.  Coverage begins the first of the month following a 30-day waiting period.  All participating dentists have claim forms; otherwise, obtain forms from wwwlnedeltadental.com.

AUTHORIZATION FOR DIRECT DEPOSIT – Your paycheck may be deposited to the checking or savings account of your choice; complete employee authorization for direct deposit forms.

MAINE STATE EMPLOYEES CREDIT UNION – All savings, checking and loan benefits are available to all employees through payroll deduction.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION – This form of tax sheltered annuity is available through payroll deduction.  Return the completed information request form to the Business Office if interested.

U.S. SAVINGS BONDS – Available through payroll deduction.

UNION MEMBERSHIP – Available to those who wish to join, contact your local representative or NMCC Business Office for further information.  Union members may purchase Income Protection Insurance.

OTHER BENEFITS – Including workers compensation coverage, general liability insurance, holiday schedule, staff development and our affirmative action plan will be discussed in detail during your individual orientation.

VACATION LEAVE – Accrued as follows:

Support Staff Administrators
0 – 5th year – 1 day per month 0 – 2 years continuous service 15 days
5 – 10th year – 1 1/4 days per month 3 – 7 years continuos service 20 days
11 – 15th year – 11/2 days per month 8+     years continuous service 25 days
16 – 20th year – 1 3/4 days per month
More than 20 years - 2 days per month
 


SICK LEAVE – Generally, an employee earns, subject to the terms of the current negotiated agreement, one (1) workday per calendar month of service accumulative to 120 days of unused sick leave.  Unused sick leave in excess of the accumulative limit accrues to a lapsed balance.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE – In the event of the death of an immediate family member, an employee is allowed the appropriate leave as stated in the current negotiated agreement for each bargaining unit.  Two personal days are allowed for faculty and administrators.
