Policy #: 6115:07
Subject: Workplace Violence Policy and Procedure
Section: Personnel (6100-6199)
Effective: April, 2004
PURPOSE: To provide a working atmosphere that is free from violence, the threat of violence, intimidation, or other disruptive behavior not covered under the provisions of other policies and procedures.
It is the policy of Northern Maine Community College to promote a safe environment for its employees. The college is committed to working with its employees to maintain a work environment free from violence, threats of violence, harassment, intimidation, and other disruptive behavior. While this kind of conduct is not pervasive at NMCC, no college is immune. Every college will be affected by disruptive behavior at one time or another.
Violence, threats, harassment, intimidation, and other disruptive behavior either on the NMCC campus or at its satellite locations will not be tolerated. Reports of such incidents will be taken seriously and will be dealt with appropriately. Such behavior can include oral or written statements, gestures, or expressions that communicate a direct or indirect threat of physical harm. Individuals who commit such acts may be removed from the premises and may be subject not only to college disciplinary action, but to criminal and/or civil action as well.
Your cooperation is required to implement this policy effectively. Do not ignore violent, threatening, harassing, intimidating, or other disruptive behavior. If you observe or experience such behavior by anyone on NMCC premises, whether he or she is a college employee or not, report it immediately to a supervisor or to NMCC authorities. Supervisors and managers who receive such reports should seek advice from the college Vice President at 768-2806 as soon as is practicable to initiate appropriate action and response.
NOTE: FOR THREATS OR ASSAULTS REQUIRING IMMEDIATE
