A student successfully completing this program will be able to do the following:
- Function successfully as technicians on wind farms and/or in other energy settings.
- Demonstrate an understanding of conceptual foundations of wind energy and the terminology used within the power industry.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements for proper siting of wind turbines including physical, environmental, and public policy issues.
- Demonstrate good math, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate specific and in-depth understanding of electricity, electronics, mechanical systems, and fluid power systems common to modern wind turbines.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the National Electrical Code requirements.
- Demonstrate an understanding of NFPA 70E, OSHA, & ANSI standards with focus on electrical safety programs, HRC, PPE, LOTO, Confined Space, Working at Heights, Fall Protection, and safe chemical handling.
- Demonstrate an understanding of trouble shooting techniques utilizing PLC information, electrical, mechanical, fluid power schematics and technical manuals.
- Demonstrate an understanding and working knowledge of PC and PLC installations, trouble shooting skills, and software transfer.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of PC software used for email, data entry, spreadsheets, word processing, and internet browsing.
- Demonstrate an understanding of communication systems such as Ethernet, fiber-optic, and Serial.
- Demonstrate the safe handling and proper use of hand tools, power tools, power bolting, and rigging equipment.
- Demonstrate safety concepts used with high voltage systems, high angle work sites, and tower rescue procedures.
