A competitive entrance process helps to ensure that only those students with the highest probability of success are accepted into the program.  Early application (9-10 months prior to the fall term) is recommended.  Priority acceptance will be given to Maine residents who complete the application process by January 1 and meet or exceed all minimum admission standards, including:

1. GED or high school diploma.
2. Satisfactory completion (70 percentile or grade of C, whichever is higher) high school (or higher) algebra, as well     as biology and chemistry with labs (completed within the past ten years)-- or satisfactory completion of NMCC's BIO 114 course.  Satisfactory completion of high school level or higher physics is highly desirable.
3. Score of 50 percentile or higher on pre-admission skills testing in writing, reading, numerical skills, and algebra.
4. Demonstrate proficiency in each of the academic skills measured by the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS).
5. Two positive written references attesting to motivation, commitment and abilities of the candidate.
6. A medical profile and completed health certificate.  The     U.S. Department of Labor indicates that the duties of general duty nurses require "medium" work.  "Medium Work" is defined as "exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds     of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands requirements are in excess of those for "Light Work."  Individuals unable to perform the physical duties of a nurse are encouraged to carefully consider the appropriateness of this occupation/program.
7. Yearly medical tests and/or immunizations as required by law, clinical affiliates and the college.
8. Valid American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider Level Certification (valid throughout program). 

Note: Students with successful prior college courses may receive priority providing all other minimum standards are met.  Students may be given only one opportunity to reenter the program after having failed to complete it previously.
