A student successfully completing this program will be able to do the following:   Integrate the knowledge, skills and values of the NMCC general education core into their every day lives.  Demonstrate an understanding of the role and responsibilities of an EMT-I within an EMS system. Apply basic concepts of human anatomy & physiology to the assessment and management of emergency patients.  Safely administer emergency medications. Establish and/or maintain a patent airway, oxygenate, and ventilate a patient.  Perform a comprehensive history and physical assessment. Communicate patient conditions to other members of the health care team verbally and in written format.  Formulate a field impression and implement a treatment plan for a trauma patient. Formulate a field impression and implement a treatment plan for a medical patient.  Provide high quality care within their scope of practice for patients throughout the lifespan who are experiencing common complaints and alterations. Demonstrate the ability to think critically and analytically in order solve common patient care problems.  Understand the various roles of the paramedic within an EMS system, and apply the basic concepts of human development and pathophysiology to the assessment and management of critically ill or injured emergency patients. Be able to establish and maintain patent airways in patents presenting with complex medical or trauma problems.  Interpret and analyze assessment data in order to form a sound treatment plan for the acutely ill or injured. Communicate verbally and in writing using profession specific terminology to assure optimal care of patients.  Work collaboratively with the health care team in the care of patients throughout the lifespan. Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning.  Demonstrate citizenship & leadership through appropriate communication, delegation, conflict resolution, and collaboration skills. Integrate pathophysiological and assessment findings to formulate a field impression and treatment plan for chronically ill and severely injured patients of various ages and cultures.  Safely administer medication by demonstrating the ability to calculate appropriate dosages and understand basic pharmacological principles. Manage the scene of an emergency.  Adhere to the EMS Code of Ethical behavior. Provide high quality, systematic care to the sick and injured.
