Philosophy of Ethical Practices

Preamble

Northern Maine Community College, a community composed of administration, faculty, staff, and students, recognizes and subscribes to several basic tenets encompassing worth, dignity, and respect, responsible citizenship, and potential for all.

Desirable Ethical Practices

In commitment to institutional integrity, each individual will attempt to adhere to the following guidelines.  NMCC community members will strive to—
  • subscribe to applicable professional Codes of Ethics and other codes appropriate to NMCC activities.  The commonalities in each code indicate a commitment to students, self, NMCC associates, and the external community,
  • exhibit a paramount responsibility in fulfilling NMCC’s mission.  Outside employment or other activities must not interfere with NMCC members’ duties and responsibilities,
  • maximize individual potential and pursue excellence in all activities,
  • retain professional and/or technical currency in their disciplines,
  • avoid any exploitation of professional relationships or the misuse of institutional resources for personal advantages,
  • treat each individual with courtesy, fairness, respect, and good faith,
  • participate in the development and support of institutional policies, procedures, and objectives,
  • provide a healthy and safe environment,
  • respect confidentiality,
  • disclose, in good faith, information that is accurate and complete to the best of their knowledge, and
  • avoid conflicts of interest.
